02Faith & Adventist Education

Faith & Adventist Education

What a Christ-centered, Seventh-day Adventist school means for your family.

Many families ask this, and the answer is no. Gateway welcomes families from all Christian backgrounds and faith traditions. Every family is invited to learn what Adventist education can mean for their child, regardless of religious affiliation. Families are asked to support the school's Christ-centered mission and respect its practices, such as the Sabbath as a day of rest. An Adventist school is a Christian school connected to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Gateway Christian School is a ministry of the Mount Dora SDA Church and part of the Florida Conference Office of Education network of Seventh-day Adventist schools across Florida. Adventist education nurtures mind, body, and spirit, combining academic excellence with faith-based values to inspire a lifetime of purpose and service. Students here also design, build, and compete through Adventist Robotics and take an Outdoor Education trip in 5th and 6th grade. Call (352) 383-9920 to plan a visit.

Academics & Teachers

05Safety & Wellbeing

Safety & Wellbeing

How Gateway keeps every child loved, safe, and known.

That is one of the most important questions a parent can ask. Putting others first drives Gateway's mission, and students learn how Jesus showed us to treat one another. When a parent reports bullying, an incident report is completed and the principal personally investigates. Every child is known by name in our small, family-like community, and teachers give one-on-one attention. For current details on discipline beyond that process, call the Gateway office at (352) 383-9920.

Every parent worries about this at some point. Gateway keeps the entire building locked, and every visitor is buzzed in and signed in at the front office. Classroom doors stay locked and open only with a 4-digit PIN, students are always supervised at drop-off, pick-up, and recess, and a sensor in the parking lot alerts the office whenever someone pulls in. To see the campus for yourself, call (352) 383-9920 to book a tour.

Every parent worries about this at some point. Each student at Gateway is known, valued, and made to feel part of the Gateway family, which matters when a child is having a hard week. Gateway Christian School wants school to be a safe place to bring a worry. For current details on wellbeing support, call (352) 383-9920 or email GCSInMtDora@flcoe.org.

06Learning Support

Learning Support

Supporting each child as a unique creation of God.

That is a fair question, and you are not the first parent to ask it. Gateway's application invites families to share recent standardized test scores and an IEP if their child has one, so the admissions committee can review the whole picture. Each student is known and valued, and teachers give one-on-one attention in a small, family-like community. Gateway Christian School would be glad to talk with you about your child. For current details on learning support, call (352) 383-9920 or email GCSInMtDora@flcoe.org.

Gateway accepts Step Up For Students scholarships, and Unique Abilities is one of the Step Up For Students programs in the same application cycle. 07PreK & VPK

PreK & VPK

Half-day VPK, full-day PreK, and wraparound care for Mount Dora's youngest learners.

Yes. Gateway's half-day VPK program runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and is paid by Florida VPK, so families pay no tuition, no registration fee, and no application fee for those hours. For 2026-27, full-day PreK is $4,100 a year with VPK, or $410 a month, and $7,600 without VPK, or $760 a month. Gateway Christian School would be glad to walk through the options with you. For current details on how full-day PreK pricing works, call (352) 383-9920.

Florida VPK is for four-year-olds. A child must live in Florida and turn 4 on or before September 1, and children who turn 4 between February 2 and September 1 may wait and start VPK the following year. For current details on Gateway's own birthday cutoffs and potty-training expectations, call the Gateway Christian School office at (352) 383-9920 or email GCSInMtDora@flcoe.org.

Families get the VPK Certificate of Eligibility through the Family Portal of the Early Learning Coalition of Lake County. Online registration for 2026-27 VPK opened January 1, 2026. For current details on wraparound pricing and availability, call (352) 383-9920 or email GCSInMtDora@flcoe.org.

Not exactly. VPK is Florida's free prekindergarten program for four-year-olds, and PreK is the school program that surrounds it.
